On April 17, 2024, the Department of Political Science celebrated the accomplishments of our outstanding students at the 2024 Spring Awards Ceremony which recognized scholarship and academic award recipients.

John Straayer Citizenship and Public Service Scholarship – Landon Huey
This scholarship supports a full time junior or senior undergraduate or a graduate student enrolled in the Political Science Department within the College of Liberal Arts and has been accepted into the Legislative Internship Program or another public service or government affairs internship in the Political Science Department.
Bob and Elaine Lawrence Gateway to Law School Scholarship – Jala Ward
This scholarship supports an outstanding student enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and member of the CSU Pre-Law Club. Bob Lawrence joined CSU in 1971, teaching classes on American politics, U.S. foreign policy and security policy. He was a faculty sponsor for the ROTC program on campus, and for many years, he served as CSU’s Pre-Law advisor.
Political Science Scholarship – Mia Torres and Sara Kiros
This scholarship recognizes an outstanding junior, senior, or graduate political science student.
Roy L. Meek Scholarship – Kevin Melchior, Raneem Kalaaji and Clara Pierce
Roy L. Meek was a professor in political science for CSU and served as an associate dean for the College of Liberal Arts. He taught constitutional law and civil rights and liberties during his tenure. This scholarship was created to honor the impact Roy had on his students and colleagues.
Lang Political Science Scholarship – Kinsey Zeigner
This scholarship supports a senior political science major who has been involved in campus or community activities. Eugene A. Lang, Jr. received his political science degree from CSU in 1975 and is a well-respected lawyer currently practicing in Denver, CO.
Thomas K. McQueen Political Science Scholarship – Leticia Madrigal Tapia
This scholarship supports an undergraduate student majoring in Political Science interested in a career in law or government service. Thomas McQueen received his political science degree from CSU in 1971 and has gone on to a distinguished career in law.
Ann Gill Scholarship – Ximena Luna and Halee Wahl
The Ann Gill Citizenship and Public Service Scholarship was established to recognize and assist a junior or senior Political Science student who has been accepted into the Legislative Internship Program or another public service or government affairs internship in the Political Science Department.
Best Grad Paper Award – Sonia Lynn for “The Effect for the Resource Driven Conflict Between Russia and Ukraine on Said Countries and Beyond. The Single Case Study Exploring Linkages Between Conflict (war) and Resources”
Best PhD Graduate Teaching Assistant – Julia Munsaka
