Indentured Citizens: How Student Loan Debt Shapes Americans’ Political Attitudes
Tuesday 4/16 at 2pm at LSC Room 376

Americans collectively owe over $1.75 trillion in student loan debt, with the average borrower from the class of 2022 owing $29,000. Social scientists have documented how student loans shape Americans’ economic, personal, and health outcomes. How does owing this debt shape borrowers’ beliefs about politics and inequality? Prof. Krupenkin will join us to discuss her research on American student loan debt and the meaningful role it plays in the political socialization of young adults.

Prof. Masha Krupenkin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Boston College and a Fellow at the Center for the Study of Democratic Politics at Princeton University. She has also served as a Visiting Scholar at Microsoft Research New England.
