Your Place for the Study of Government & Public Affairs

The Department of Political Science at Colorado State University provides undergraduate and graduate educational programs to enhance students' knowledge about government, politics, and public affairs. Our curriculum covers the breadth of the political science discipline, including American politics, comparative politics, international relations, political theory, and public policy and administration, with an additional and unique specialization in environmental politics and policy. Our students develop strong critical thinking and analytical skills and the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas. Our faculty and graduate students research to advance knowledge about government and politics and identify solutions to societal problems in the United States and worldwide.

The Colorado State University community lost an inspiring figure, a powerful voice in political science—and we lost a close friend. Professor Emeritus Dr. Bob Lawrence, who first joined the CSU Department of Political Science in 1971, passed away on October 8, 2023 at the age of 91. Dr. Lawrence’s footprints have lingered within the halls of Clark and in the lives of those he taught. He was a beloved pillar of the CSU community and leaves behind a lasting legacy.

Earn your Master of Arts (M.A.) or Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in an established graduate program. We offer coursework in traditional political science and subfields, and our department has a unique specialization in environmental politics and policy.
