Leticia Madrigal-Tapia — a third-year political science student — has been selected to receive the Voyager Scholarship, formally known as the Obama-Chesky Scholarship for Public Service. Madrigal-Tapia is part of the scholarship’s second cohort and is the first student from CSU to earn this prestigious honor. The Obama Foundation made the announcement on Aug. 22. Spring 2023 Award Recipients 

Outstanding Senior, Aidan Lyde 

The Department of Political Science recognized Aidan Lyde as the 2023 Outstanding Senior. Aidan embodies the mission and values of our department—demonstrating excellence in academics, co-curricular activities, experiential learning, student leadership, public service, and a dedication to environmental policy.

Outstanding Junior,  Landon Huey  

The Department of Political Science recognized Landon Huey as the 2023 Outstanding Junior. Landon has shown exemplary academic work, involvement in co-curricular activities—and extraordinary character, maturity and leadership.

John Straayer Citizenship and Public Service Scholarship, Alicia Barron 

Alicia Barron was awarded the John Straayer Citizenship and Public Service Scholarship. This scholarship supports a full time junior or senior undergraduate or a graduate student enrolled in the Political Science Department within the College of Liberal Arts and has been accepted into the Legislative Internship Program or another public service or government affairs internship in the Political Science Department 

Political Science ScholarshipLandon Huey & Eleanor Sitter 

This scholarship recognizes an outstanding junior, senior, or graduate political science student. Eleanor is a political science major with minors in both Environmental and Natural Resource Economics and Sustainable Water Interdisciplinary Studies. Landon Huey is a political science major a proud member of the CSU Pre-Law Club, CSU’s Mainstreet Acapella group, CSU’s Outdoor Club, and CSU’s Alpine Club. Huey also served as an Honors Peer Mentor.  

Bob and Elaine Lawrence Gateway to Law School Scholarship – Landon Huey  

Landon Huey was also awarded the Bob and Elaine Lawrence Gateway to Law School Scholarship which supports an outstanding student enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and member of the CSU Pre-Law Club. Professor Emeritus Bob Lawrence joined CSU in 1971, teaching classes on American politics, U.S. foreign policy and security policy. He was a faculty sponsor for the ROTC program on campus, and for many years, he served as CSU’s Pre-Law advisor.  

Lang Political Science Scholarship – Claire Walther  

Claire Walther was awarded the Lang Political Science Scholarship. Walther is a double-major in Political Science and Fish, Wildlife, and Conservation biology with a minor in Entomology. This scholarship supports a senior political science major who has been involved in campus or community activities. Eugene A. Lang, Jr. received his political science degree from CSU in 1975 and is a well-respected lawyer currently practicing in Denver, CO.  

Roy L. Meek Scholarship – Ron Sides and Ornella Kabeya   

Ron Sides and Ornella Kabeya were awarded the Roy L. Meek Scholarship. Roy L. Meek was a professor in political science for CSU and served as an associate dean for the College of Liberal Arts.  He taught constitutional law and civil rights and liberties during his tenure.  This scholarship was created to honor the impact Roy had on his students and colleagues.  

Thomas K. McQueen Political Science Scholarship- Leticia Madrigal  

Leticia Madrigal was awarded the Thomas K. McQueen Political Science Scholarship. This scholarship supports an undergraduate student majoring in Political Science interested in a career in law or government service. Thomas McQueen received his political science degree from CSU in 1971 and has gone on to a distinguished career in law.  

David Allen Memorial Scholarship – Caitlyn Stebbins and Halee Wahl  

Caitlyn Stebbins and Halee Wahl were awarded the David Allen Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship, named in honor of Dr. David Allen, a beloved member of the political science faculty, provides funds to support a student of junior or senior status who has been accepted to a study abroad program.
