Fields of Study: Political Theory, Environmental Politics and Policy, and Comparative Politics
About: Mary Witlacil is a Ph.D. student who received her B.A. in Political Science and French from the University of Colorado in Denver. After her undergraduate work, she then earned a M.A. in Politics and International Affairs from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. While at NAU, Witlacil’s thesis was a Foulcauldian discourse analysis of a negotiated water settlement between the Navajo Nation and New Mexico. Her research critically examined the relationship between the Navajo Nation and New Mexico in terms of water rights. Witlacil’s current research interests center around the question of how non-human citizenship affects the identity formation of human citizens in terms of natural (river/mountain) versus corporate citizenship.
